CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION (CWC)
Central Water Commission is an apex engineering
organisation of the Government of India in the field of water resources
development. This organisation is primarily responsible
for giving technical clearance to all major and medium projects
in the water resources sector in the country and ensure the implementation
of Government policy in the sphere of water resources development.
CENTRAL ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY (CEA)
This organisation is the premier central organisation
in power sector and has built up comprehensive expertise during last
five decades Having worked with a number of worlds leading engineering
organisations, it has grown in know-how and expertise to tackle all kinds
of problems relating to the field of power.
SURVEY OF INDIA (SOI)
The Survey of India established over 225 years ago, is one of the premier
survey organisations of the world. SOI undertakes all types of surveys
and preparation of precision maps with the most sophisticated equipment,
knowhow and experience gathered over the years.
GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA (GSI)
The Geological Survey of lndia, established in 1851, is a specialised organisation
for conducting applied research, investigations, geological exploration
and geological mapping for the whole of India. GSl has also developed expertise
in engineering geology and geophysics.
CENTRAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING ORGANISATION (CPHEEO)
CPHEEO is vested with the responsibility of national level planning, programming
and advising various State Governments and Central Agencies/organisations
for technical clearance, monitoring and evaluation of plan programmes in
the fields of water supply and sewerage. It is also responsible for formulation
of various Acts connected with public health services in the country and
for bringing out guidelines on urban & rural water supply and sewage
treatment and related infrastructure development.
INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT (IMD)
Established over 200 years back, India Meteorological Department is the
principal Government agency entrusted with the task of providing meteorological
statistics required for planning of projects and forecast meteorological
information for optimum operation of weather sensitive activities.
CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD (CGWB)
The Central Ground Water Board is the nations apex body for planning,
surveys, exploration, technology development and management of the ground
water resources in the country for irrigation and other needs.
INDIAN COUNCIL OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH (ICAR)
ICAR, established in 1920, is the national body
which coordinates research, education and
training in the fields of agriculture,
animal husbandry and fisheries. ICAR is directly involved in research
through its 31 institutes which undertake research in fundamental and applied
agriculture. To deal with problems relating to the states, regions, or specific
locations, it operates through 21 agricultural universities as well as public,
quasi-public and private institutions.
CENTRAL ROAD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (CRRI)
CRRI is a premier Indian research organisation established in 1952 for highway,
traffic and transport planning including research and development in the
areas of soil stabilisation and rural roads, geotechnical engineering, flexible
and rigid pavements, pavement evaluation and performance, bridge engineering,
instrumentation, traffic, transportation, environment and road safety.
NATIONAL REMOTE SENSING AGENCY (NRSA)
NRSA is a department of space sponsored organisation
devoted to the acquisition, processing and dissemination of remote sensing
data NRSAs data is used by a number of agencies of the Govt. of lndia
in the areas of ground water prospecting, flood mapping and damage assessment,
soil mapping, watershed management, crop estimation, ocean studies, hydrographic
mapping, resource mapping etc.
CENTRAL SOILS AND MATERIALS RESEARCH STATION (CSMRS)
The Central. Soils and Materials Research Station carries out detailed geo-technical
explorations, construction material surveys, pre-irrigation soil studies, including
in-site and laboratory testing. It has all the requisite scientific/engineering
staff as well as sophisticated field/laboratory equipment.
CENTRAL WATER AND POWER RESEARCH STATIONS (CWPRS)
CWPRS, founded in 1916, is one of the foremost organisations in the world in the
field of hydraulics and allied research. It is recognised as a regional laboratory
of ESCAP region. CWPRS provides specialised services through physical and mathematical
model studies in river and canal hydraulics, coastal engineering, environmental
studies, instrumentation, etc. It offers training facilities for individual and
group trainees in the relevant disciplines.
ENGINEERING/AGRICULTURAL ORGANISATIONS/DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT
State Engineering organisations have long experience in planning, design and construction
of river valley projects covering hydraulic structures like dams, barrages, regulators
and navigations locks; water conveyance systems like canals, tunnels and penstock;
water supply and sewerage system including treatment facilities and power facilities
like power houses, transmission lines and switchyards.
NATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS IN ASSOCIATED FIELDS
The 32 national research establishments comprising national laboratories,
institutes, organisations with 80 field stations spread all over the country
are engaged in research activities of technological advancement including
environmental engineering, geophysics and oceanography. Beside these, there
are research institutes set up by State Irrigation Departments which are
actively engaged in research pertaining to river behaviour, hydraulics of
control structures and allied problems.
